Our Real Estate Journey
Every person's real estate journey is very different but the same.
We thought to share Gail's childhood memory of her home on a farm in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, primarily owned by the 'Land Bank'.
Over to you Gail...
The build was known as a Rondavel, better described as a series of round structures joined together with passageways and built of home-cured bricks with a grass-thatched roof. The layout was very similar to the Post War Queensland Cottage. The floors were polished concrete throughout, tinted with the weekly 'Cobra' Polish – red or green and floral curtains were the order of the day.
Hot water was provided by stoking the boiler morning and night, and the wet weather created havoc with leaks in the most obscure places; charging around the house with towels and buckets to capture the drips was a normal occurrence. Timber borers were common in the wooden trusses of the roof, creating a layer of fine dust revealing their presence.
Most farm homesteads had a swimming pool; their primary use was to provide water to the household, farm workers, fruit and veggie gardens, animals and most importantly, the tobacco nursery. Interesting to note that the pool area was never fenced off; we learnt to swim very early in life and often shared a dip with frogs and snakes that popped in for a swim. Our farm was a 90-minute drive on part dirt and part tarmac to the nearest shopping centre.
Half a Century later...
Wynnum/Manly Bayside found us, and how lucky we are, and why not? It's perfect! A thriving metropolis recognised as a family-orientated suburb with a magnificent transport, health, education, and shopping infrastructure within a short drive to Brisbane Central and the surrounding area.
I have observed the transformation over the past 14 years we have lived here; double blocks have been developed along with the massive change of Traditional Queensland Cottages to modern-day living, achieving an average increase of $250,000 in sale prices since the dreaded COVID.
Properties that are 'ready to move into' are still being snapped up. Investors are selling, and renovators and developers are coming back into play with the availability of supplies.
Buyers are cautious with numbers falling due to the unknown in interest rates; however, with stock remaining short, properties are selling within two weeks of coming to the market. This is good news for our Bayside, so if you are considering selling or have undertaken upgrades and want to learn more, don't hesitate to contact me.
And remember to check your pool safety and smoke alarm upgrades and watch out for those pesky termites.
